A number of the text help tips below are Microsoft Word related but also work the same in our webdesign software.

Some of these computer keyboard shortcut tips are pretty basic but we would suggest reading through them as there will be some of the text help ideas which you may not have come accross before which will save you a lot of time before you get started.

  1. When working on building a website you can copy text from a word document, Microsoft Word or from an e-mail or from another website page and transfer/paste the information over to your web page.

    N.B.
Use the right click and paste method here "Not Control V" as we have a built in filter to clean up text before pasting.

    Caution:
Be carefull when coping material (text or images) from other sources/websites as you might be infiringing on copyright information which is an offence and will get you into trouble.

  2. Keyboards functions: Text Help
These basic steps of copy and paste and other functions can be done on your keyboard as a short cut.

    • Copy
Highlight your desired text or picture. Hold down the Control Key on your keyboard, then press the "C" key on your keyboard. This will copy everything that has been highlighted.
    • Paste
Click your cusrsor where you whish to paste the coppied material to.
Hold down the control key. Pressing “V” will paste the copied information.
    • Copy All
Pressing “Control A” will copy the entire page.
    • Undo
“Control Z” will undo/go back/delete your last command/entry. This is a very handy keyboard command that you will use frequently.
The same command key is also in our tool-bar top left, which looks like an arrow curving back, the same as shown in Microsoft Word tool-bar.
    • Redo
"Control Y" will redo last command.
    • Print
“Control P” is to print the page you are on.
    • Cut
"Control X" is to cut the highlighted word,
      sentence or picture.
    • Save
“Control S” is to save the work you are busy with.
      N.B.
This command should only be used when working with Microsoft Word or other programs and not in our webdesign program. To save in the
website program press the “Save” button at the top right of the page. Remember to always save your work on a regular basis, especially when you leave your computer.
    • Bold
"Control B" will change the text that has been high-lighted to bold or un-bold command.
    • Underline
“Control U” will underline the text that has been high-lighted.
    • Italics
"Control i " will Italacise the text that has been high-lighted.
    • Highlight using your keypad
Place your cursor next to the word or image you want to highlight. Holding down the Shift Key (The key above the Control Key) click the Arrow Key to the right or left key depending which way you want to highlight.
Following the same steps click on the up or down Arrow Key will highlight the entire sentence. The End and Home keys do the same thing.
    • Still on Highlighting
When highlighting text from a web page it is quicker to copy starting from the bottom up than working from top down.
  3. Rectifying errors or deleted information:
When working on your website and you have made an error.
Press “Control Z” to undo last command or use the same key in the tool bar.

If you for some season cannot sort out the error and you have messed up badly. Then this next step should be your last resort.
Do not save your work. Just click on “VIEW PAGE”. The page will restore itself back to where you had saved your work last. You will loose all work done from the last saved entry. This is another reason to save often while working.

If for some strange reason you have deleted your web page by accident.
Go to Google search and find your website in the Google display. You will see next to your domain name a word
Cached Click on this link. You can copy and paste your contents back onto your web page.

Clicking on Cached can also be used to see the keywords used in your text which will be high lighted. This is handy to see the percentage of keywords you have used as this is important in setting up your web site for keyword optimization for search engines.

  4. Coping and Pasting
When coping and pasting into your web page try not to copy and paste pictures. Although this can be done it is advisable to transfer pictures through the correct procedures as simply coping and pasting will slow down the downloading time when visitors open up your website. I won’t go into the technical reasons behind this as it is un-important.
You do not want people to wait for your website to open up. Your website taking too long to open will cause your customers to leave.

It is best to transfer your pictures into our built-in library facility. Then to use/transfer your pictures from there.
